3/4- Weekend Homework Assignments

EAP- Using the handout I gave you in class create a 3-5 minute presentation about a popular dish from your city or region.
  • It must include:
    • All of the information from the handout
    • A power point presentation with 3-9 slides
    • A summary of the main points at the end of your presentation 
Upper Core- Finish the final draft of your cause-effect research paper due to Lauren after lunch on Monday 3/7. Study for your Q4 unit 6 test on Monday.

Lower Core- Answer the following questions in 1-2 paragraphs (5-8 sentences each) on the blog for Monday. 
  • How has science changed the food we eat?
  • Do you think it has  had a more positive or negative effect? Why?

    Yesterday, in the core class, I learned how has science changed the food we eat, it has three point. Firstly, people use some method of science to make food of fruit more convenience, for instance, expert make peach’s seed disappeared, therefore, we can eat peach easily. Secondly, expert use chemical to make food could be stored for a long time. Thirdly, expert through a long period of experiment to elect the good variety.

    Basically, I think the food of science changed that it positive aspect overcome negative aspect, because everybody nowadays live in fast-paced life, and some of them do not have time to buy vegetables and fruit, so some food of stored for a long time and convenient fruit is good for this people. As for negative effect, some of food use chemical to keep fresh and tasty, which have some bad effect for people, but it is negligible.

    More and more science foods began to appear in our life and most of them are delicious, expiration date is longer than before, and we can eat the anti-season vegetables or fruit. Therefore, how has science changed the food we eat is a main problem. According to my research, there are three methods about the science changed the food. First, use the antiseptic to prolong expiration date. Second, use the food additives to make our food are rich in taste. Last, the genetically modified food can make the food variety.
    Base on my experience, there is no doubt that the science food has lots of negative for us. For example, more and more people are getting fat; lead to a lot of new diseases; the average health of people is falling, because the science food usually have many chemical component, and always too much oil and salt. As well as, the negatives of science food always impact on children, because they have many different kinds of food and many different flavors. Therefore, they can attract children to buy and eat the food. To sum up, the science food not only affects our eating habits they also threat to our health.

    Now in general, we eat processed foods every day, but following this society scientists create scientific foods. Most of people choose foods basing on their pleasure or not healthy foods. So scientists create healthy and delicious foods. First, scientists use artificial skill to invent preservative fruits and vegetables. Second, when they make foods, they will add some healthy materials that through drying to improve flavor. Third, scientists create transgenic foods for us, we can buy all kinds of foods.
    To be honest, these foods have more negative factors. This is because that basically in the past, we did not use any technology to urge foods to grow, but now we use many chemical materials adding into raw material of foods. Business in order to earn more benefits. So I think it is negative for people to eat these foods.

    Now the food Industry process foods by chemical means. They usually use many Food Additives to make it delicious and to extend shelf life, by now have ten million kinds of Food Additives such as glucose and preservative and you can fund them in everything foods. Lost of people dislike Food Additives and believe them are unhealthy, but the Food additives brought to people many benefit the very important are improve the shelf life of food.
    If you are asking me, I will say these foods have more positive factors.The reason why is, they have been solving the shelf life of foods the mean by we can have more and more foods, and I want say the Food Additives vast majority are natural due to they are form fresh food, people just use some method to refine it.

    First, science solve the food poverty in poor country such as african country, some asian country. Second, science make food more convenient such as eating food irrespectively whenever whereever. Third science such as chemical ingredient make food more nutrious and safetier.
    I think science make food more positive. Because science make people healthier and safetier than past. People don't die with food problem anymore. Science has also negative effect but I think many positive point can ignore negative point.
    So I think science is positive for human.
