2/25- Homework Assignment

EAP- Use the information in the pictures from Reading 2 below as a starting point for a flow chart. In your notebooks, describe one of these things:
  • what happens following a bite by a bedbug
  • What happens following the bite of a venomous spider
To expand your your chart, do some outside research on the process you choose.

Core- Explain which case study you chose and why. Next, answer all of the questions below your case study on the blog. (I want 2 paragraphs, 5-8 sentences each)

    I chose the study case 1: THE GOOD STUDENT. Because I think this is a big agreement problem about what should they (Yosef & bene) do on study? How to help our friend or classmates in right way? Or who should get scholarship in this case? Likewise, this situation that copying other’s homework and copying an answer during a test are extremely common in China University. Although I can make sure no coping is in every university, sometimes we haven’t a serious punishment.
    According to article I think Bene would fell happy and lucky, however he knew that he could get the scholarship due to Yosef’s helping, as a result he would feel a little bit embarrassed. In contrast, Yosef was shocked and perhaps he would felt guilty. Consequently, he thought it wasn’t fair and he couldn’t accept the result. Therefore, Yosef should change way to help Bene. For instance, he can explain difficult parts to Bene, teach him how to solve problem and tell him to try to achieve assignments by himself instead of copying. On the other hand, Yosef should be activity to participate discussion in class and show him advantages. In short, if I were Bene, first I would work hard in class and avoid to copy after class, by the time, if I had a big problem I would ask professor for help after class. Secondly, I would tell the professor the real story, apologize and promise nerve copying others. In addition, next semester I would get scholarship by myself.

    I chose the study case two – helping classmates. In my opinion it is important to get a good grade. As for now, I just a English program student, I do not know what is the best way to help classmates in America and what is wrong because I am a international student. There have different culture between China and America. Therefore, I hope that, through this case to get better understand campus culture in America and learn what are different with Chinese campus. Actually, this case in China you may not get in trouble because you can explain the reason to professor. If you are not cheating, the professor will still give you a good grade. As well as, the professors will patience to listen to your explanations.

    In my opinion, these students did not cheat with each other. I believe that, they just did not know what should they do to write a research paper. But the problem is may be they use a same topic on each paper. In America you must learn how to be an independent thinker. For example, some international student they can understand what is the professor said during the lecture but nobody can help you among you classmates. You just can ask the professor. Same things, if you unclear what the professor wanted in the assignments, you can ask your classmate after class or sent a e-mail to your professor. According to this case, I think these students should write the paper by themselves and they should have their own ideas. You can copy word or sentences from book but remember you must use quotation marks. Eventually, they did not said anything in their defense may be is right, because the facts is they had same mistake in assignment.

    I chose case study 3: Plagiarism. The reason is I am interested in this story. This story is about different understand of plagiarism in different cultural. This problem may be happened on my college life in America. In addition, it let me to notice more on the American school cultural. It is helpful for me to choose this story. I think I have to pay more attention on it.
    Based on this story, the cultural misunderstanding is about the plagiarism on research paper. Elle thought that writer a research paper is to search others idea and copy it on the paper. In addition, she did not understand that every words she had copied have to give credit. If I was Elle, I would have said my understanding about research paper and asked what I should do. If I was professor, I would have asked her to give me a reason for this result. In addition, if I knew the misunderstanding, I would have explained the cultural and gave her another choice to add the credit on her paper. It is because I do not think that she should get F due to her hard working.

    My option is CASE STUDY 3: PLAGIARISM, because at first, I suppose this is an article which introduce how to study hard to write a paper, but the article wrote the teacher misunderstands ELLE then article will be shown the professor let ELLE to explain what happened? Why you copy? Notwithstanding in fact, ELLE really “copy” some information from book. I believe every student want to study hard and try their best to do the homework, but in general they really need to look up a number of knowledge or information. They anticipate they can get a good grade.
    The cultural misunderstanding is that ELLE thinks she according to teacher’s guide to write a beautiful paper. Likewise, she copies some information from book, but her teacher said she copies others’ paper. She is very sad. As a matter of fact, when others wrote paper, they also use the same information from books, so the teacher said ELLE copied others’ paper. If I were ELLE, I will tell the professor the truth. I just utilized the information of books. Basically, I have prepared this paper for long time. I don not have other meanings. I entreat you can forgive me. I think she should not get an F. If I were professor, I will inquiry the truth to clarify she are cleanly. Inquiring the truth, I will give her a grade again.

    I chose the study case two – helping classmates. I chose this case study because I am also an international student and when I go to university maybe I will get same mistake like them. My English don’t like a native speaker, also I just graduated from high school so sometimes can’t exactly to understand what professor’s mean and what he want. In all, I want research this kind of situation and also want to know when I got this kind of mistake, what should I do?

    In my opinion, they did not cheat for professor. They may cannot understand professor’s topic, they don’t know the rule of paper writing. When they get the topic, they discussed together and maybe get same topic. But finally, the professor find same mistake from them paper. The professor thought that they have same mistake so they copy paper and cheating for professor. If I have same situation, first I will check some information about how to write a paper and find a native speaker to discuss, I will establish my own topic and ask question about paper to professor. Eventually, they didn’t say anything in their defense because they realized what they mistakes after they got the F.

    I chose case study 1: The good student. I chose this story because I'm very upset with two guys in this story. Yosef let his friend Bene cheat his test paper and wispered him answers in the class instead of volunteering answers. One day Bene received scholarship even though Yosef was much better than Bene. Yosef is idiot and Bene is such a bad guy.

    I think Bene would felt like stepped in the back. Yosef was shocked and upset when he knew Bene got scholarship. This situation occurred because Yosef let Bene cheat his test paper and did not volunteered in class. Yosef should not let Bene cheat his test and should have volunteered more in the class. Instead of letting him cheat his paper, Yosef could teach him before class or lend him a note. If I were Bene I would say to professor that Yosef is much better at physics than me. Also I would apologize to Yosef that I didn't expect this situation.

    I chose CASE STUDY 1: THE GOOD STUDENT. Because of shy, sometime someone whose action same like Yosef, and they are not volunteer answers, although they know the answer. As for how to study in the class. How to help our friends correctly and how to protect our benefit. We should think a lot.

    In this article, I think Bene felt happy or surprise, because he got the scholarship with cheat and no hard work. Also, he probable thought Yosef is stupid by reason that he always use Yosef’s get benefits, such as Bene use Yosef’s whisper to answer the question. When Yosef known Bene get the scholarship. In contrast, Yosef was shocked, and thought it is unfair. According to this situation, Yosef should self-reflection and thinks why he helped his friend and make his friend get award with he get nothing. In other words, Yosef should think about how to help other people with not let someone copy, for example, when Bene want to copy his homework or exam test, Yosef could not help Bene copy, but if Yosef have leisure time after class or exam and he willing to teaching Bene, that way is right to help people. On other hand, Yosef could tell his friend specific knowledge and make his friends be an independent learner. For Yosef, he also should practice answer the question confidently. Personally, if I were Bene, I would feel guilty and I could give the money to Yosef and say sorry, after that, I will do my best in study.
