Lauren's EAP- Use your notes, the answers to questions 1-5 on your handout from today's class and the phrases below to write a 1 paragraph summary of today's lecture and post it on the blog.

Bob is having problem's at work. He is being passed over for positions due to his appearance & demeanor. Also he's having trouble staying organized which is affecting his work.

  • Find a new article/resource giving advice on this topic and give Bob some advice. 
  • Write a paragraph of advice for each problem (=2pp) and include at least 1 direct quote or reference from your resource to support your advice in each. 
  • Use 3-4 vocabulary words from Q:LS Unit 2

    Summary:
    In the lecture, the professor talked about the pace of life in different country. He said that Professor Levine conduct the study about what make the pace of life slow or fast. The researchers from this study look at three factors, the speed of people walking, working and is the time in the office accurate. He told us this study found some places that life is fastest, for example, Italy and Germany. Then, he explained some slowest places, like Syria and Brazil. After that, he wrapped up with five factors that the fastest place have. These are people can earn more money, country have high developed, places have many people, the weather is cooler and the culture pay more attention to personal life.

    yesterday , in lecture the professor talk about the pace of life in different country or different culture . And what make the pace of life slow or fast .Factors looked at i study have three points: the walking speed , the work place speed,and accurate time .He told us if you study different place your pace of life is different . The first you will fastest ,for instance:Japen Ireland and Italy . second you will slower ,for example: Brazil Mexico and Syria . Then the professor wrapped up with five factors that the fastest place have . The places have many people , country have a good development such as high degree of industrialization and vital economies .

  3. 1. Hi, bob. I heard you have some problems recently, let me tell you something. The way you look plays a significant role in your success. So I want to point out some recommendations about how to improve you appearance and demeanor. First, like etiquette coach Barbara Pachter said "Everyone draws their lines differently," If your company has a dress code, follow it. Second, Never leave your house with wet hair, otherwise you will others very unprofessional impression. Third, shoes usually first attract others attention, so make sure your shoes are polished and in good condition. I believe after you follow these three rules your like life will have a significantly change.
    2. How to organize your daily life is also an effective and important skill for everyone, so you can follow my suggestions if you think they are necessary. Firstly, trying to remember things will not help you to stay organized. You should try writing things down. Secondly, you can make a schedules for daily life, and write down about the deadlines of some of your homework or important events. Believe me it make your life much easier and efficiency. Finally, if your life still so chaos, you should know how to give everything a home. Zachary Domes said keeping your life organized means keeping your things in their proper places. If you can find your staffs easily every day it means you are saving your time, and step toward to your success. I hope you embrace my advices, they will really make your life become more meaningful.

In the lecture , The professor talk about how the pace of life in different culture and places .And then he discussed what made slow or fast pace of life.The research results come from 31cities and three factors.He explained people walking speed in life ,in workplace speed and in accurate time.He gave two good examples,one is where life is fastest, such as Switizerland, Ireland ,Germany ,Japan and Italy .The other is slowest countries , for example Syria ,El Salvador and so on. After that , he wrapped up with five factors that places with the fastest place have in common.They are important economics ,high degree of industrialization ,larger population ,cooler climates and personal development .

  5. Bob’s situation will be better if he can do some changes in his appearance and organizing aspects respectively. First, Appearance does matter in one’s business. How you look will directly indicate how well you can lead or how others perceive that you can. Most of time we trend to definite a person base on our first impression, which means appearance will give a prejudice for others. Bob should invest in his appearance as well as his other aspects. As Phaedrus said, “Things are not always as they seem; the first appearance deceives many.” Groom yourself, dress neatly and smartly. If buy a new luxury suit can make you feel in command then just buy it. Only when you are in healthy and clean appearance can make people willing to give you a second look or to be your listener. Under this circumstance, more and more people would like to follow you and your career will be easier to success.
    Second, well organizing also is a vital importance factor for your business which help you run more efficiently. A chaotic work environment can save your time and help you spend less time on looking for what you need. An orderly and well-structured working area can improve both leader and employee productivity and reduce stress. According to A. A. Milne,
    “Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.” Beside, you are professionalism will be totally showed off since the first second your clients come into your office. How could your client make a millions contract deal in a messy office with papers or important files out of order? So what you should do is clean you work place and keep it tidy and in order. Moreover, establishing a good habit to well organizing your place regularly.

    In last class. We professor said to us, the life pace is different in the each country and each culture.The have three aspects. The walking speed ,work place speed and accurate time.
    If you live different place, you have different pace. Like Instance,Japen Ireland and Italy the life pace is fast. But you life pace well slower for example: Syria Brazil and Mexico.Usually economic development is batter in the fast paced country.

    Yesterday, the professor talked about the pace of life and he said that is speed at or life.
    And then he discussed what makes a fast or slow pace. He gave three factors about the pace of live, first is walk speed, second is workplace speed and third is accurate. Next, he gave some fastest speed and slowest speed countries about pace of life. The fastest countries like Japan and Italy, the slowest countries like Brazil and Mexico. Finally, he told us what factors are make pace of life faster, it include vital economies, high degree of industrialization, larger population, cooler climate and a cultural orientation towards individualism.

  9. 1, In the article, Here How Your Clothing Affects Your Success, Jacquelyn Smith states, “Your appearance strongly influences other people's perception of your financial success, authority, trustworthiness, intelligence, and suitability for hire or promotion”. So, I suggest Bob should pay attention to his appearance. I wonder that Bob dress casual and mess in company. A good appearance has a good impression to others, Whether you like it or not, your clothing communicates can have serious effect on your ability to achieve success. If a boss want to hire or promote an employee, usually the boss will choose the tidy and gloomy one rather than a messy person, because while you can not organize yourself well means you can not organize and concentrate on your work well. What kinds of clothes you wear shows who you are,

    2, As we all know, physical appearance effects the judgment area of the brain, people will be influenced by a variety of factors, like your age, gender, hair color, weight, facial structure and others. In my eyes, Bob should have dressed formal in company, but Bob didn’t. Let me give Bob some specific advice: First, never wear dirty and wrinkled clothes. Second, wearing appropriate shoes and pants. Third, wearing the clothes that fit you well, and show your status and enthusiasm. Fourth, always be smile. I hope Bob can accept my advise and make changes, then find a perfect job.

    Today, in this lecture, the professor talked about different people have different pace of life.The most important idea is depending on the different city or culture. He said Professor Levine conduct the study about what makes a fast or slowest pace. The researchers conclude three factors such as working speed, workplace speed and accurate time. There are fast and slow pace of life in different life. The fastest countries are Germany and Italy. The slowest countries are Syria and Brazil. After that, he wrapped up with what are the similarities the fastest place in five factors. The people need to make money in the fast place. The country have to have high degree about industrialization. There are larger people in the country. It is better to have a cooler climate. The powerful country need a clear cultural orientation towards indivdualism.

    Dear Bob,
    I hear that you are having some problem at work. In daily business work life, judging from appearance is one of the most important way for boss to judge the employee's professional. Sometimes judging by appearance can be misleading. But underestimating the impression and appearance could be a big mistake. I would like to give you some suggestions about improving appearance and organizing skills in work life. Firstly, If I were you, I’d dress up and be well-mannered. Wearing suit is necessary at office, dressing up will makes you look clean and professional. Generally wear a suit and tie, but it does depend on the job you are going for. Secondly, keeping demeanor under pressure. Kind-hearted demeanor have the most important thing is to be good colleague.
    I would like to point out getting organized at work also important, Firstly,keeping a calendar of meetings, deadlines and lunch dates is, at the very least, going to prevent you from getting fired. Secondly, making a rule to turn your attention to materials like invoices. Instead of paying a bit of attention to several different areas, you might feel less complicated if you take on a task and finish it to completion. Lastly, Don't get bogged down feeling guilty about your workspace; if you have a system which helps you on working, use it. The research shows that, cleaning plan might be helpful to take a few minutes each week to shuffle through your workplace to see what you no longer need and toss it. That is going to be a good cycle during your work life.

Lots of people who get in trouble with the appearance may always have a question in their mind that people always said don’t judge a book by its cover, but why we also emphasize the Importance of appearance at the same time. Actually, we have to recognize one fact first; one’s Appearance really has big effect on others’ think about what kind of person you are. Therefore, you have to appropriate suit in different occasions, also, you have to behave proper demeanor for particular situation. So, the most significant thing is thinking about what kind places or occasions you will go before changing clothes. For example, having lunch with your boss easily associate with formal incident; thereby, wearing suit is necessary. Moreover, while eating the meal, you need to pay attention on the content you talk and your behavior is suitable or not all the time.

    Furthermore, in order to make your daily life become more organized, making a record is important. First, for environment where you stay, you need to classify all your stuff, and put the same category together. Sometime, making notes about what category you put in which place or sticking labels is necessary. Second, making plans will help you organize your life as well. However, you can’t always rely on your memory to remember all of your plans, since people must miss or forget something carelessly as they list too many matters need to do. Consequently, writing everything is the most effective way to help you to organize your life.

  16. Hi, Bob, I heard recently you have some issues, let me give you some suggestions. First, you need to know the importance of appearance. Because people will put you into different groups when they see your clothes at the first sight. like Jacquelyn Smith said, “Your appearance strongly influences other people's perception of your financial success, authority, trustworthiness, intelligence, and suitability for hire or promotion”. Second, you need follow the dress code, that is the basic rules you have to follow. last, I recommend you need to find a cloth that really fit in your body. you do not need to care about trend.
    2. If you want your life become more organized, My suggestions are, first, you need to out everything in different groups, sometimes if you cannot remember you can make stickers. Second, you can make your own plans, please be specific, then you will know what should you do next. Last, you cannot always believe you memory, So you can write diary, record everything. I hope my suggestions can help you.

    How are you doing Bob? I heard that you are having some problem at your work place. Please let me give you some advice with your appearance and demeanor. The appearance is actually have a very important role in the work place. Appearance is kind of communication that tell other people where you at. And since you are one of the worker of the company that you can influence company image with your clothing. Just try to wear former clothing, at least just a shirt and jean. More you wear former cloth, company will notice your effort and respect on their company.
    Your desk, I heard your desk is such a mess. you should not be like that. try to be organize and that way is probably best for you too. Being organized saves so much time. Whatever information or paper you are looking for, if your desk is clean, you probably can find it immediately, right? And your image as a employer will get higher tension to get promote. So there are not much good things to be messy and please concern about your appearance at your work place. I hope my advice was helpful! See you Bob!

  18. Bob has some problems with his appearance and demeanor. People have different ideas and different criteria. It is possible that Bob thinks his appearance like messy desk, but when people see his desk, they can think differently. You can undermine your reputation by unprofessional speech and behavior, and by carelessness in your assignments (Project Management Plus). Thus, Bob should show his good appearance or demeanor to make people trust him.

    To keep organized office life, Bob should get rid of any office supplies he hasn’t used it. From the article ‘10 Quick Tips for Getting Organized’, it claims that non-used items wouldn’t be used in the future, it just takes up some spaces. Also, he has to use calendar which can write down any events or special day, thus he wouldn’t forget later. Otherwise, he would be forgot what he should do.

    My friend Bob, I heard bad news about you, so I want to give some advices for you. According to Jim Higgins, in business appearance is very important part because, setting a dress code can improve your company’s marketing efforts by providing these crucial benefits. First, your clothing style can’t too attractive. Too much revealing clothes can make coworkers uncomfortable and can’t focus on their works. Second, before leave home, you have to check your appearance. Therefore, you can check your hair style and clothing style. If you follow my advices, many people will think that you are well groomed person.
    Also you have trouble to organize your schedule. It is not too hard work. I will give few advices about this problem and just follow my direction. First, use smart phone or paper and pen and write things down. You have to write down everything not just important things. You will become planned person. Second, Keep only what you need. If you keep only what you need, you don’t have to waste time at useless things. Third, Work hard. According to Zachary Domes, It required that you work hard with recognition that when you work harder, you can enjoy your clutter-free home life later.This is my advice.
