Lauren's EAP- Write a 3 paragraph advice column response to your classmate's problem. Use C-E on page 27 of Inside Writing and edit your writing using page 28.

  • This needs to be typed and correctly formatted (12pt, times new roman, ect.)

Lauren's Core- Finish your 2-3 page descriptive essay reviewing a product or service. It is due to Lauren on Monday.
  • Use Q:RW pages 50-52 and your outlines as reference
  • Make sure that it is properly formatted, printed and completely fulfills the task asked of you (describe product, highlight key features/qualities, describe customer  feelings/satisfaction) 
  • Don't forget to visit the writing resource center for help

Lauren's EAP- Inside Writing pages 23-24 (2 sentences each for B).

Lauren's Core- Create a typed outline for your research paper. Follow the example below and turn it in to Lauren tomorrow at 10.15 in Core 1.

Topic: Write a 2-3 page descriptive essay to review a product or service (See Q:RW 50-52).
1.       Introduction-
a.       Broad & catchy introductory sentence- main topic
b.      Narrowing sentences- what about the main topic will you focus on
c.       Thesis
2.       Body paragraph- (do this for each body paragraph)

11/18- Homework Assignment

Upper Int - Advanced level EAP- Write a 1 paragraph summary of the 'Ecopolis Now' article using your notes from Reading Skill on pages 27-28. It must be typed and ready to turn into Michelle tomorrow morning at 8.30.

Lauren's Core- Print out 2 articles from your work cited and highlight & annotate them. Use Q4: Reading & Writing pages 36-37 as reference. Bring these to Core 1 class tomorrow at 10.15 to be used in class.

11/13- Weekend Homework

RAK class homework- go to https://www.futureme.org/ and send an email to your future self. 

Lauren's EAP- Make a 2-3 minute presentation w/ PPT to present to EAP class on Monday 11/16
  • Topic: Presentation about the pace of life in 2 parts of your city or town. 
  • Part 1: Research- 
    • Choose 2 local places (ex: coffee shop on campus &  dunkin doughnuts)
    • Observe people in each place and compare pace of life using 3-4 factors (ex: how fast they walk, how long it takes them to buy something, what they do after . . . )
  • Part 2: Present your observations to the class w/ PPT-
    • Explain whether you think the 2 places have a similar or different pace. 
    • Show pictures of each place and give examples from your observations to support your ideas. 
    • Did you like the pace of one or both of these places? Why?
Lauren's Core- Develop and deliver a 5-7 minute presentation w/ PPT to present in Core class on Monday 11/16. 
  • Topic: answer the question- "How does appearance affect our success?"
    • Think about this in regards to personal appearance & organization in professional situations
    • Research the topic and find 3-5 resources listed on your final work cited slide
  • Present your research to the class w/' PPT: 
    • Answer the question and give evidence (3-4 SD) to support your idea.
    • Give 3 pieces of advice to help messy people become more organized. 
    • Make sure to show evidence of your research throughout you presentation.
    • Make sure you have introductory & work cited slides in your PPT.
    • Be ready to be answer questions from me and your classmates directly after your presentation.

Bob is having problem's at work. He is being passed over for positions due to his appearance & demeanor. Also he's having trouble staying organized which is affecting his work.

  • Find a new article/resource giving advice on this topic and give Bob some advice. 
  • Write a paragraph of advice for each problem (=2pp) and include at least 1 direct quote or reference from your resource to support your advice in each. 
  • Use 3-4 vocabulary words from Q:LS Unit 2

Lauren's EAP- Finish A-C on page 13 in Inside Writing and then write a 1(elementary students) or 3(pre-intermediate students) paragraph description of your structure.

Your writing must:

  • be typed & properly formatted (12pt, times new roman font & double spaced)
  • have a topic sentence, supporting details & concluding sentence for each paragraph
  • be printed and ready to give to Lauren on Monday morning at 8.30

Lauren's Core- Finish writing your 2-3 page persuasive research paper answering the unit question "What makes someone a hero?"

Your essay must:
  • be typed & properly formatted (12pt, times new roman font & double spaced)
  • show evidence of research (properly cited) throughout with a 5-7 resource work cited page 
  • be printed and ready to give to Lauren on Monday morning at 10.15
    • late work will lose points 
The people you pick for the hero paper can not be the same as those you chose for your leader presentation last week. If more than 1 of them is the same you will receive a zero. This is called self plagiarism so don't do it!

I created and administered my own survey for a project. How would I cite this survey in an APA-style paper?
Since a survey you conducted yourself is not published elsewhere by someone else, you do not cite it in the same way you cite other materials. Instead, in your paper you describe your survey and make it clear that the data you’re referring to is from the survey, usually by saying so in introductory sentences. In your paper, you should include a short overview of your survey method: whom the survey was administered to, how it was administered, how many responses you got, and what kind of questions you asked. You should include a copy of the survey instrument (the full set of questions asked) as an appendix to your paper. You do not need to include your survey in your works cited list.

  1. Peer edit your classmate's paragraph using Q:RW page 26 (A. and Self-Assessment)
  2. Create a work cited page with 7 resources for a persuasive research paper answering the unit question "What makes someone a hero?"
    1. Print out, read and bring in 1 of the resources for an in-class discussion tomorrow.
  3. Review your level descriptor. Cross out the skills you are confident in and highlight the ones you feel you need to work on. Bring this to class tomorrow.
